Clothes for a Newborn
During the first few weeks, newborn babies mainly wear bodysuits/vests and sleepsuits/babygrows as they sleep most of the time.
Vests or bodysuits can come in three different styles.
- Sleeveless cotton bodysuits/vests.
- Short-sleeved cotton bodysuits/vests.
- Long-sleeved cotton bodysuits/vests, for when it is particularly cold.
Depending on the season you will require several of each of these. Short sleeved bodysuits/vests can be worn on their own if the weather is very hot or they can be worn underneath an all-in-one sleepsuits/babygrows if the weather is cold.
All-in-one cotton sleepsuits are the most commonly worn garment by babies for everyday use. You can also buy footless sleepsuits and nightdresses. The nightdress usually have an elasticated hemline.
If you and your partner are tall, a footless sleepsuits are a good choice as you may find the all-in-one bodysuit style doesn’t fit very well on a taller baby. With the all-in-one footless style you will require socks or booties for your baby’s feet.
