Babies can get all the nutrients they need from breast milk or formula until they are around six months old. At 6 months their digestive system should be fully developed and able to start digesting solids.

Its important you wait until your baby is ready before moving them onto solids. For example, can they sit up and hold their head up unsupported or are they are showing interest in your food and when you are eating. If you think your baby is still hungry and not satisfied with their milk before 6 months, speak to your health visitor before moving them onto solids.

If you have been advised to start feeding your baby prior to 6 months old, you can start feeding them small amounts of baby rice or cereal mixed with their usual milk, you can mash in little bits of banana in there as well.
