When Can Baby Have Finger Foods?

Question, when can baby have finger foods? Please read the useful answer to this question below.
A baby can have finger foods once they are able to pick food up in their hands and put it into their mouth. This can vary and is dependent on the child’s co-ordination. Most baby’s can feed themselves with finger food from 8 – 10 months. The food needs to be cut into small portions and be soft enough for them to chew especially if they only have a few teeth. Pieces of fruit such as banana pear and mango are fine. You can also buy little muslin bags which you can put the fruit into for them to suck.

My little boy started to eat finger food when he could start grasping his food. This was around 8 months. He was so excited to be doing this. Its such a development and amazing to see him develop like that. Exciting times. But as the answer above says, you need to make sure that they are ready and the pieces of food are small enough and soft enough to chew and swallow, to avoid chocking. Also always keep a close eye on them when the are eating!
