Toys Your Baby Will Love

Purchasing Books and Toys for Your Baby

Young babies learn through play and your baby has a lot to learn about the world around him. In their first weeks of life, babies can only recognise the colours black, white and grey. Soft toys coloured black and white can briefly keep their attention once they begin to focus and take an interest in their environment. Small black and white books, which can be propped up in their pram or changing table, will eventually gain their attention.

Small books that feature black and white characters or shapes are ideal in the first four to eight weeks, often going on to become a real favourite for many babies.

A selection of these can be purchased on Amazon, John Lewis ,Lamaze,JoJo Maman Bébé , book shops, department stores and toy shops. Or click on a product below to read reviews or to purchase

One little black and white book is enough, at first, as your baby will soon move on to more colourful options.
These two little Animal Books are a real favourite with small infants as they have the added interest of being made from crunchy materials, which make a sound that appeals and fascinates a baby. Tails that dangle from the pages are fun to hold and play with.

Sophie the Giraffe was designed fifty years ago by a Frenchman, Monsieur Rampeau, and is still a great favourite with babies. Sophie was born on Thursday 25 May 1961, Saint Sophie’s day.

Sophie can be squeezed, chewed and held easily. She is often gripped tightly as her legs are long and slim and made from 100% natural rubber. When squeezed, Sophie makes a squeak very pleasing to a baby, though not necessarily to the parents! She is easy to keep clean and can be washed in warm soapy water, unlike many toys which can only be sponged clean.

There are more designs on offer, a teething giraffe and a little picture book to add to your child’s enjoyment.
